Today, let us look at the words translated as "sin," and "sinner," and "to sin." In order to understand some of the fun in what Jesus says, we have to get the real meaning of these words because “sin” drains the fun out of everything.
Thank you again Gary for these penetrating insights. You’re right, the church is perfectly aware of the real meaning of hamartia but it can’t bring itself to let go of its sin connotation. The whole evangelical message is built around an angry God - and that requires something for Him to be angry about. So without man’s sin we’re just left with a loving God!
