Our goal here is to explore the depth of Jesus’s words. To do that, we must look at how his verses work together to express his message. In this article, we make a little journey through a series of his statements about light. This relates to the series of articles about the “awakening of the dead” because, as we will see, Jesus used the concept of light to talk about life as opposed to death.

Who is the light?

Let us start with Matthew 5:14, his first mention of “light” in the Gospels, Jesus says:

KJV: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
NIV: You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
Listeners Heard:  You yourselves are the light of this society. A city has no power to be concealed, seating itself on top of a mountain.
