In Mark 2:20, Jesus describes himself as a bridegroom and his followers as members of the wedding party. But what does this have to do with the way that Jesus taught? Sure, there is that analogy of the church being the bride of Christ, but there is exactly zero evidence in Jesus’s words for that idea. There is also zero evidence that Jesus was ever married in his own life. But in Jesus’s era, this idea of a wedding had a very specific meaning that helps us put everything else in perspective. Especially the idea that a lot of what Jesus says is humorous.
