John 16:7 Fun

Sometimes discovering Jesus wordplay creates a lot of work. I found some clever wordplay in analyzing John 16:7, which made me go back and examine all the other verses that use the same fun verb. And I found that he made a similar joke in all of them. That means that I had a lot of wor to do updating all those verses.

The funny is symphero, which means “bring together” but which always translated in English bibles as something like “it is better.” I realized, however, that Jesus uses it like we use the phrase “getting it together” to mean improvement. Here, he tells them that his leavin, will “get them together,” which is a little funny. But in the other verses where he uses this verb, like Matthew 5:29, and Matthew 5:30, he says someone plucking out his eyes and cutting off his hand will “get himselve together,” which is funny.
