Because of the mistranslation of “mistake” as “sin” (see this article) in John 16:9, the next two verses become downright cryptic. The context is the Comforter/Advocate accusing the world of “sin, righteousness, and judgment.” John 16:10 is the explanation of the accusation of “righteousness”:
KJV: Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
Does that explain why “righteousness” is a sin? Not to me, but the keywords here have specific and clever double meanings that make perfect sense.
